In the face of these problems, the medical community shines. The development of corrective lenses and eyedrops, surgical procedures, and even artificial corneas offer a glimmer of hope. For those afflicted with these conditions, the glow of progress is a beacon in the dark.
Despite the restrictions and challenges, our visual system is a marvel. The blink of an eyelid, pupil dilation in response to light, the gleaming gloss of a healthy eyeball, even the collective orientation of both eyes for depth perception--each detail serves a purpose. And while we may occasionally overlook the nuanced complexity of our vision, a moment's recollection brings into focus the glossy spectacle that is our visual experience.
